Hello Everybody and Happy Labor Day yesterday.
Well we've had a series of events that are pretty sad actually. But I trust that the Lord will help us thru them.
Well last week was a pretty hard week heat wise. It was hot hot hot again. We biked around all day visiting member and potentials and trying to find new people. We did surprisingly well seeing we don't really have any progressing investigators. We managed to have dinner with almost all of our Part Member family Eternigators so that was good. We also managed to teach some of our potentials, but we were unable to count them as new investigators because we haven't been able to get back with them since. Probably they were all busy for Labor day weekend.
We had dinner with the Friel Family this week. They are a pretty awesome family, they have been investigating the church for about 7 years now, but they are super nice. Brother Friel considers himself a Mormon already, but he has some issues he just can't get over completely. Namely smoking and a little alcohol now and then. Sister Friel actually came to church though this Sunday after we had dinner with them the night before.
So we were not able to find anyone officially new to teach this week. But we have the potential of picking up about 6 new people if only we can just get in with these two part member families that want to start coming back and that need to have their "of age" children baptized. It's always fun to deal with teenagers anyway. They can be pretty cool, but also kinda tough sometimes to keep their attention.
Ok, so the bad and sad news this week. After dinner with the Friels on Saturday we decided to get home a little early to finish some weekly planning. So we get home and we get a call almost as soon as we walk in the door from president Martin. He says he wants to meet with Elder Johnson at 9:00. Its about 8:30 when we get home and my first though is, oh shoot he's coming here in 30 min and this place is a mess! So I'm frantically cleaning, and Elder Johnson is all thinking he's in trouble or something. I honestly didn't know why President would want to interview him this late, and especially on this short notice. But I assured him that it was probably a new missionary interview or something, seeing he's only been out for 12 weeks. However, I was wrong. Pres showed up, and the apartment was much cleaner, along with Sister Martin as well. I thought it strange that Sister Martin would accompany him but it made perfect since later... President took Elder Johnson to our room to interview him, while I sat out with Sister Martin. Sister Martin began to explain why exactly they were there. She explained that one of Elder Johnson's best friends that he's known since childhood passed away that day. Naturally Elder Johnson was pretty devastated. His friend's name was Tommy and he is about our age and seemed perfectly healthy. However, they figured he must have had something wrong with his heart, because he was found off to the side of the road in his car slumped over the steering wheel.
Elder Johnson seems pretty depressed over this naturally. We are at the Santa Clarita Library where the computers are allot faster so he can more easily communicate with his family and get some details and hopefully a little more closure. I think getting back to work though would do a great deal of good. The greatest work ever is the greatest cure ever.
Alright I got to go but take care everybody, and pray for my companion that he will be able to continue to get better.
Till next time
-Elder Rickers
